Calif. 8:56 p.m. The EF was at P16, had to wade to chase her out; couldn't see the [illegible] on the incubating bird, but it had to be the F. Checked the nest J6.5 about 9:10 p.m. forgot to check the sex of the incubating bird, but at 9:15 the F was on the nest. At the earlier check, the egg H was found and marked, a new egg, supposedly laid last night. May 9 same locality - 5:30 a.m. egg #I in nest J6.5. F was on the nest and probably laid the egg since about 4 a.m. It has a bunch of white chalky stuff towards the small end of it. While those pair were defending at J6 the MF was "punk punking" encouragement from K7, in the cat tails. At nest #6, I6, 1 the square shield, this time the F was first to defend the nest, and supposedly the bird on the nest. The F appeared on the scene a minute or so later. The SWF also has a square shield, but with an indentation as in the case of the EF. The SWF got on the nest once while I had my hand near it. 10 eggs..5:45am 5:49 a.m. EO at P17, "punking" as I go by, and he moves north as I go along in my orders.
