Calif. is moving S to O/7, then spotted several birds at 15-17 M and he charged out to N/6 to rout them, then turned back to P/6. There here now at 11:05 with E & F incubating. E & F at P/6 or thereabouts. Scotch tape looks like the deal for numbered eggs. As with both other pairs, one bird sits in the S W pair has a square shield, like class 3, whereas the other has the class 2 type. Here also, is a line in the middle of the square shield. Both of these birds have yellow legs. Both are nervy and excited, one stood on a under water stick a minute and tried to slap but couldn't so, it found some floating cat-tails it could slap. Egg & was laid in nest O6.5 since last evening. Both parents near, tho F was on the nest. May 8 Univ. Calif. Campus, Alameda Co, Calif.- Among the several foods put in last Friday afternoon, tho (today is Monday) fresh corn is most complete gone, not a kernel remaining on the five ears put in. The romaine has also been heavily used, the birds having specialized in eating out the center of the heads leaving the coarse outer leaves alone. The lettuce seems to be completely gone while the cabbage looks little used and the spinach appears to have been hardly touched.
