GULLION 1950 May 7 Fulica americana 404 Palo Temescal, 420 ft, Alameda Co.; Calif. 10:42 - E ♀ lost - 10:43 she is at P15.22 feeding. 10:45 - she is feeding at P15.9 working N, 10:45:30 she left P17 with a piece of cat-tail, heading N via Q 20 - some one is sitting on the bench at P 21; she went directly to the nest clump, entering at 10:47, then a moment later she came out and went to Q 24 via P 23. At 10:50 ♂ came off nest Q 22, the ♀ came from Q 23 to meet him at P 22, they swam together for a moment, at 10:51 the E ♀ is into the nest clump, the ♂ loafing at P 21, doing some preening, 10:52 to moved to P 22, and now 10:53 over to Q 23. ♂ where he has climbed on some cat tails to preen. 10:54 he's off the nest, and into the nest clump, then it, and moving S at Q 21, to Q 20 at 10:56, then abruptly turning was a ♂ Mallard approaches the nest clump, but stopping at Q 22. 24 as the Drake remains SW of the nest clump, now to it. When the Mallard started into the nest clump, the ♂ moved over to rout him. The duck moved out to P 21. Now a water spaniel is on the show, at Q 21, thinking about swimming, he's in the water, chasing the Coot out to Q 21, the Dog turned back, the ♂ Coot following a respectable distance behind, "barking" all the while.
