Calif. -- To be a drake Mallard somewhere about but I have not seen him yet, just keep hearing -- and then I saw him, he's in his eclipse plumage. July 29 Univ. Calif. Campus, Alameda Co. Calif.-- Bird T 99 - no molt, bill a little grayish but not bad, LP yellow, under wing coverts, actually all under wing coverts with white tips, all wing feathers present. Bird T 97 8,9,10+11 inner 4 secondaries on the right side have been dropped but no primaries or left side secondaries. White tip on inner most primary w/1st primary. Bill grayish legs YG. All under wing coverts white tipped, but only slightly so on primary coverts. Rectrices not molted, but broken off. Bird T87 - All secondaries & primaries gone on right wing (clipped) but no coverts gone, no regrowth visible. On left, clipped wing, sheaths are about 5 to 9 mm long on primaries and secondaries are first breaking the surface, greater coverts are dropping out; rectrices all present, bill grayish near tip. All under wing coverts white tipped. TOO - pin seems to be in OK. Rectrices and under coverts in partial molt, primaries and secondaries on both wings about equal in length, that
