Jul 1950 559 Fulica americana July 22 Lake Towescale, 420 ft, Alameda Co., Calif.- Nest @ H7.24 is suffering from lack of attention, H7.23 is slowly developing but not being greatly enlarged, I was in that area. I6.1 & I6.18 are just heaps of cat-tails covered with flies. J6.7 seems to be abandoned, the Buddy nest at J6.22 is no longer in use. @ 2:30 p.m. SE♀ off the nest at X7.17. 7 eggs in nest K7.17- #8 missing, lost not hatched since only 18 days have elapsed since laying. Nest newly built up, both parents in close defending. I doubt if any of these eggs hatch - none pipped. Still 4 eggs in nest P16.2 -♀ was on the nest, both birds vigorous in defense. Both young in close also - they are starting into their dark gray stage.
