July 10 Jewel Lake, S/0 ft, Contra Costa Co., Calif. - and out of sight. 1:25 a single immature Came out from the core area to feed for a few moments before disappearing again. I am quite sure there is no bird on the H17.2 nest. 1:31- an adult is out feeding again, at 11:26- there are no yng with it, in fact now 1:32 both parents are in the same area, and there is no sign of yng near them. About 1:35 the ♀ moved from L25 to H17, then across to C16 where I lost her. She seemed to be intent on feeding yng but did not feed the one seen in the nest area. The male we sped some at B16, I don't know. 1:41 she is moving out from B18 to D28, giving an occasional explosive "pooks", its sort of alarm, as she moves across towards to NW core. I didn't hear any whining from yng so I don't think she fed any in the B16-17 area. 1:44 - the ♂ just gave a couple of explosive "pukes" at 1:26 as the ♀ swam over towards him. These two birds sure seem to be without any yng to bother them. 1:55 p.m.- 4 immatures seen, 3 at - no all five seen, together at EF/0. diving and feeding. They seem to all be very close in plumage stages. Nest H17.2 in about 48 hours has disintegrated into a poorly composed platform, with feces on it. It is not even a decent brood nest. The 3 unhatched eggs were not found, but they will probably surface later.
