Gullson 1950 Fulica americana 541 July 5 Jewel Lake, 510 ft., Contra Costa Co. Calif.- Near the nest. Lake Tamescal, 420 ft., Alameda Co., Calif.- 7:50 p.m. SE♀ off nest at 17.6 so must be on. Nest H 7.24 looks about ready for eggs, it is lined with dry material for the first time. The Mgr are still together, but seem to be restricted to the SW side of the island. About 7:5 M♂'ll trying to get in to roost in the SW end was routed by the SW♀, but he ignored the M pair under the willow at J39.16. But at 7:56 the SE♀ went out and routed both of them around to the W side of the island. The nest at J 7.21 seems to be occupied by Mallards exclusively. A new structure, display platform like, has been built on a floating wood at P16.4. It is composed mostly of green cat-tail leaves. July 7 Jewel Lake, 510 ft., Contra Costa Co., Calif- At 8:30 a.m. The ♂ is on the nest, the ♀ feeding in the N pool. Two immatures worked S by the nest without interception, but they seem to give the nest wide berth. One of these has a light bill and a dark gray, head, neck and foreparts, the other just the crown and scapae is dark. 8:43- another imm. with light bill came down the lake in advance of the ♀, showing obvious signs of mistrust in her intentions, the imm kept trying to feed but got no result
