Fulica americana 536 July 1 Lake Temescal, 420 ft., Alameda Co., Calif. Ducks were in the P16 area. No bird on nest K7.17 at 11:56 p.m. uly 2 same locality - 12:05 a.m. a bird heard getting onto nest K7.17. 12:15 a m. a bird is on the nest, sex?, checked nests, J7.21 cold, I6.18 cold, I6.1 and H 7.24 warm, also the Rudely nest at J6.22. Found a new, well concealed and well developed nest at J6.7, near site of older one. Checked for night roosting, found 1 bird at F17 and 1 or 2 at F22. No F17 bird lived repeatedly as it moved far out into the lake. 12:58, still 5 eggs in nest K7.17, a bird flushed off. The eggs were warm but all wet. Now, 1:03 a.m. I hear a bird adjusting cat-tailson or near the nest. Now at 1:05 quite a bit of cat-tail readjusting is going on around the nest. About 1:10 a.m. Checked the P16.2 nest, the two ygs were on it alone, with both parents in the cat-tails just N of them. I remained motionless in the cat- tails for about 15 minutes all the while the ygs nearly gave a low drown out wheeep repeated at close intervals. At 1:48 a.m. the I was on the nest, egg 6 was laid. It had the white deposit noted on fresh eggs before, also little globs of a jelly-like material.
