Moon is bright enough to write this by tonight -- it also is warm actually hot up on the hill but about 15-20° cooler here around the lake. Checking the P16 area, found the two E'ing both in P16.2 while the ♂ was on a board a few feet to the E and the ♀ was on some pushed over cat-tails a few feet to the N. Found a well developed nest at ♂ 22 just west of their earlier nest. Nest ♂ 23.10 dem'abandoned. Despite the warm temperature and bright moon there seems to be no nocturnal activity by any birds. Only the Bullfrog giving an occasional series of croaks. June 30 same locality -- From 12 m. to about 12:30 a.m. I checked the west side of the lake for roosting Coos. After a great deal of difficulty I was able to drive two out from the willows at F17 and at D29. W/BL was one of the birds at F17. Both of the F17 birds dived repeatedly, one working to F22 by repeated dives, the other going out quite a ways into the lake and then working back to F17 by repeated dives. The birds from E D29 took no such evasive action but they returned to their roosting site as soon as they could.
