As both birds swim near me, the ♀ is "poonking" and "punk- unkeying" interchangeably; the ♂ is giving mostly the "punk-one" note with only an occasional "punk?". The SW pair are keeping their area pretty well clear of Mallards, with one chase being seen at E13-14 as one SWadult attempted to clear a half dozen Ducks from that area. Later, when a fellow threw some bread crumbs etc out at 921, the birds showing interest did not come in any closer than about N20-22, since the E ♂ was busy gathering the food up and taking it to his brood now 017. As he moved down with the bread his mate came to meet him and to carry some of the food to the young. The mate got quite a bit of the bread, most of it he carried in about 10 trips.
