June 7 Lake Temescal, 420 ft., Alameda Co., Calif. In the E brood has no white on it at all. Tried to and took a color photo of the brood out on the open water. It won't be too sharp. The past two days' wind storm knocked down quite a mess of cat-tails, most of the Q 22 & Q 23 ones are leaning way over. Jewel Lake, 510 ft., Contra Costa Co., Calif. 2:05 p.m. saw all five yng feeding at FG 11-12. One has a faint suggestion of a halo remaining. Two oldest have very little of the light front remaining. All are feeding quite apart from the parents. One parent is in the cat-tails at C12, or C11. The other supposedly is on the nest. But it's not the case, the ♀ is at H15, the ♂ at G23, both feeding, I'll go down and check the nest real quick, see if a bird is on it. No the nest has been raided, all the eggs are gone, but the nest seems to be built up some more from its earlier size. Still no ramp. I'll have to look for another nest elsewhere, should be well along today. June 10 same locality - 11:42 a.m. - live been here for about ½ hour and have seen no yng. When I first arrived an adult was seen towards the N part of the pond, and just now the ♂ came out of c12 and crossed to F10, giving the "punk" note. Finally a ymg appeared,
