Middle Chain Lake, Golden Gate Park, SF Co., Calif.-
area. There must be at least 5 young
Grebes, and I would say 6-8 broods
of Mallards, from one that looks as if
it hatched this morning to other that
are quite well feathered. There is a
large turtle in the lake, it must
be a Snapping Turtle cause Sunch
Wind Turtles never get that big. Its
head is fully as large as my fist,
and its casapace is about [illegible] 18 inches
broad and at least 2 feet long. The
shell didn't begin to cover the body.
-South Chain Lake, Golden Gate Pk, SF B. Calif.
No Coots, perhaps too small, some
suitable habitat.
-Laguna de la Merced, San Francisco Co., Calif.-
Despite its large size and an abundant
supply of reeds, and some cat-tails
around the shore, there are very
few, or appears to be very few, on
this lake. Two were seen along the
S arm. 11:35 a.m. Also saw one
on a pool in Fleischhacker's [illegible]
-Laguna Salada, San Mateo Co., Calif.-
Quite a number of Coots were seen
on this pond but a very severe
headache on my part, and general
illness, prevented further investigation.
Had to call the whole trip off
about 1:30 p.m. and return home.
Worth a check back.
