Fulica americana 482 June 7 Sprinkles Lake, Golden Gate Park, SF B., Calif. 3 Coots on this lake. It is an extremely atypical habitat. The shore of the lake paved all the way around so that nothing grows in the water. One bird had the square bottomed faded shield. The other two had pointed bottoms with sharp edges. These latter two were together or nosing, perhaps paired, surely not breeding. North Chain Lake, Golden Gate Ph, SF B., Calif. This lake looks suitable for about 2 pairs of Coots. The size is sufficient and there is an abundance of emergent vegetation, in the form of Scirpus and Iris and also lots of low overhanging willows etc. There are several Mallard broods of all ages, plus a ♂ white-winged Scoter and a ♀ Wewl Duck, both cripples. Middle Chain Lake, Golden Gate Park, SF B., Calif. This lake like the others at this end of the part, stunkes. It has three broods of Coots on it. One bird was seen that had its full immature plumage. That is the [illegible] gray stage with white under tail coverts, a gray bill etc. There is another brood of at least four feeding with a ♀, that have white fronts but still retain the red bills. The black halo is just beginning to appear on two of them. A third brood, ♂ at least two, are perhaps a week old, they still have some colored body plumes
