GULLION 1950 Fulica americana 390 May 6 Lake Ternessal, 42 ft., Alameda Co., Calif. from the S end. 4:14 - a Puddy Duck got into the nest clump at O 22 and it sounded as though the O got off after it. A moment later the F gave several low punts at O 18 or so, 4:20 the O is still on the nest but I must leave. - 4:15 p.m. checked nest, I6.1 - 10 eggs all remarked with scotch tape over markings on big end of all, on mid-side of one and towards small end on side of another. Both birds in close defending. One bird stood on the platform at H7.25 and slapped its foot, did the same on some floating cat-tails just E of the nest. The F came to within about 4 or 5 feet of me. Still 6 eggs in nest P6.5. Not taped. One of the 6 proves to be new, marked F. Apparently the old eggs break or are broken in the nest for the nest is generally littered with yolk etc but no sign of shell. The eggs are partly covered with yolk also. The structure at K7.4 is somewhat better developed than it was yesterday, [illegible] a definite platform of dead & green cat-tails (50-50). Yesterday it was merely an accumulation of floating debris of cat-tails. Saw O in the Picnic Area coming in. Apparently NO E R is off the nest and at O 13.- 4:39 p.m. 4:43 p.m. - Tagged O is on the nest at O 22. # F Mallard
