All 7 eggs warm, none pipped, need to be remarked. 10:30 a.m. (11:30 daylight time) time to go. May 5 - Jewel Lake, 570 ft., Contra Costa Co., Calif. At 4:45 p.m., one bird foraging close at the S end and one bird heard in cat-tails on S side of the island. Couldn't call this bird out. Didn't hear any song but figure they are probably there. Checked nest M25.19 - at least 2 fledgling swam away from it as I approached. The F called them from back at P25 and after a couple of minutes, supposedly long enough for the young to get to safety there, did she come out to "pook" at me. The M came from someplace and also "jerked", but neither really displayed. The two eggs were gone, found #1 floating in the water about 3 feet from the nest off the end of the ramp. The nest has been revamped, that is, the cup has been filled with 2-3 inch pieces of dead dried cat-tail leaves to form a level platform.
