Top of head still plastered down. -11:45 p.m. a bird is on nest Q22-his head is pointed S so the tags are hidden, checked P16, found a pair of Mallards and two untagged Q's there. Apr 30-contd- 12:20 a.m. a femaleish drumming "punk-unks" given several times near P16 was answered by a crow at the S end. The Q call may have been given by a bird from another pair, I flushed a UNM bird out of P15, 12 that went off swimming S. Finally a 12:30a.m. the nesting bird has turned so that I can see the tags on him. It is Q. I have been hearing occasional adjustments in the cat-tails near Q23, 11 that may be his mate, I'm not sure, 1:12 a.m. flushed a bird from P16 that splattered and flew to Q23 to go into the cat-tails, that surely is E Q. 1:14 checked bird on the nest, it is tagged. Earlier I checked nest J6.5, it seemed to have a bird on it, tho I had a little difficulty being sure. Also flushed a bird from Q13 that splattered towards P16- may have been E Q. Made a loop around the S end about 2:30a.m. Found 3 Coos, including W13E at F17 and one at E/13 - all in willows. They are hard to flush out of their nightly lodging. They have green
