Tulica americana 360 Oct.29 Lake Temescal,452ft., Alameda Co., Calif. 5:06 ♀ "poonks" twice as ♂ loiter in nest area. 5:09 ♂ moves S- 5:10 gives a couple of "pukhs" from near P16. 5:15 he moves back to the nest area, starts to move away but then loops back. 5:17- he is at P23. 5:21- he is at P23, pukhking, then he moves down to the S side of the nest clump. where he is facing me, in patrol. 5:34 he is still in the same location. 5:45 he is on W ride of P&23 cat-tails, feeding- now 5:46 he walked over them and got into patrol just S of nest clump. Let. call this morning. ♂ still patrolling 5:50 a.m. 5:59 ♀ gives a "poonk" on to nest. Can't see the ♂ but he must be at P&23. 6:06- the ♂ at P23 gave a series of 3 low pukhs. 6:13- He ♂ came by to nest, on the E side, howl some pukhking further S and went down to investigate. 6:15 whole west side of lake in the sun. 6:19- E&♂ pukhking down towards P16. Chasing and paired display at F12- looks ad if SW ♂ is trying to regain some lost territory and is slowly working the border of the W area back. Both ♀♀ whisks involved, only 1(♂ ?) from SW pair. 6:25- a pair of mallards landing at P18 immediately brought forth "pukhs" from the ♂ songplace down there. This I can't see them, the quacking of the ♀ and general noise
