V. GULLION 1950 Fulica americana 333 Apr 24 Lake Tonescal, 420 ft., Alameda Co., Calif. -d quit watching the nest at 4:04 p.m. the S♀ had not yet returned. When I moved down S I found her at P/5- giving the "publz-unk" note several times. Apr 26 Same locality Having arrived at 4:05 a.m.-still can't see to write- it was too dark to really see any activity but could near splashing in the general vicinity of the E area nest. At 4:23 heard some low punts from the nest and the noise of birds clambering around on the nest. A bird was seen to come out of the cat-tail clump, so I suspect a change took place. (Sue will be nice to see what I'm writng). - At 4:30 the E ♂ gave 3 "publes" at Q 23. So the ♀ is now on the nest. Now at 4:42 another coat is sounding off at the S end, again a ♂. Now 4:50 another cost ♂ sounded off in the W area. 4:53 a E bird (♂?) came around the point at P23 and down to the nest area, in to potor against me. No notes. He finally gave 3 "publes" before swimming S. 5:55 it is now light enough to see
