Seemed to be much larger than the 2 young feeding on the open water. On several occasions during the afternoon a single young from the S brood would be seen crossing back and forth across the open water between F 10 and D 11 without the company of parents. I haven't seen birds from the north brood do this. Found what apparently is another brood near the N pair at K 28.19. The ♂ "purred" as I worked in the area. He didn't show interest when I was around the brood nest at O 25. 19, but did "purr" several times when I was in area M 25. May 14 same locality - An adult w/ 2 young seen at L 5, 22 at 12:15 p.m. About 12:45pm. The N ♀ was feeding 1 young at E 18, diving for the underwater plant. A moment later another young came out of the cat-tails at H 18 and proceeded to tip for its own food about 4 feet out. About the same time the N ♂ appeared near the boat with a third young, being fed. The ♂ moved over to the boat pursued by 2 young. He chased 1 of the young biting at its load, it gave a poor "peep - peep" as it escaped. The ♂ then promptly offered it some food just after chasing it,
