Finicia Americana 327 Apr 24 Lake Temescal, 420 ft, Alameda Co., Calit. ♀ has apparently lost his tags over the week end. Two well scarred birds are on the lake. One is obviously ♀♂, tho all the red is gone from her bill, and ♀ having been on the Worea is now unaccounted for but, a recently scarred bird is, which must be ♀. I wonder what has happened to ♂. No sign of him on the lake. 3 cots chased out of D33-34 - one went off down the lake, but the other two event out only as far as F-33 where they stopped to fill and preen. Now as a Starling with a [illegible] tail, they are coming back into the [illegible] at D33. There must be about 17 cots on the lake today, considering those counted and those on territory and not seen. At 11:00 a.m. a bird is on nest J6.5, but does not seem to be sitting tight. I suspect it is brooding the young. When I felt the eggs a while ago they were warm but not as hot as when being really incubated. Now opposite, nest ♀22.13♂11:05 The ♂ is watching me closely. He has a shield the shape of class 3 whereas the ♀ is more in class 2. W/♀ seems to be regularly chasing W-♂/♂ back and forth down the middle of the lake, from about J22 to J14 and back. I don't know what the conflict is.
