Egg #8 hatched in nest 56.5 - young dry marked L1, too small to tag. Both parents close by. Bet no other eggs hatch, none pipped. W-O/B seems to be taking quite a beating at the hands of other birds. One ♂/♀ joined him at K 11 and at least twice /♀ got him over on the edge of the water. Despite other birds close in, neither of these birds were seen N of K 8 today. Shortly thereafter, ♂ came out of H 4. 3♀ "poonked" and scurried directly across to I 7 where she went into the cat-tails. Now 6:04, one in feeding at G12, diving for Potamogton. Examined area I J 3+4 for nest, none, went to nest at H DS.19. Bird on the nest, flushed off and was the ♀. These eggs seem smaller than they generally run. She poonked and churned close to the nest. The ♂ came splattering & charging across from E 27, but was not as active in nest defense as the ♀. Now 7:15, the sun is on the lake, one south bird has been up right
