A moment later the other bird came to the nest carrying a bill full of dried cat-tail material. As the nest was approached the bird on the nest came down the ramp to take the material from the approaching bird and to weave it into the nest while the other bird wandered off. A moment later, it turned out that the bird off the nest is the ♀ the bird on the nest then is the ♂. ♂ has a swollen frontal shield. Is now wandering around on the island much disturbed by the boat on the lake. ♂ finally got down and around the boat area, swinging into the willows at P14 w/Bl, ♀, ♂/♀ all seen on the lake, and one of the fisheries fellows reported ♂ in the cat-tails at the S end. Closing in to the nest at J6.5 both birds are off the nest, but in the cat-tails about two feet from the nest. The ♂ is busily churning, the ♀ growling, the ♂ came in closest. Once the male gave a growl like note, similar but quite different from the ♀. The nest at I6.1 now has a cup. The ramp is developing to the SE,
