After a couple of minutes the ♂ started chasing the ♀, giving a low cough like note barely audible. She dived and he immediately behind her. They swan under water from about M 11.20 to F 12:11. When they surfaced, the male swam off in a "pace", while the ♀ remained in place preening. This behavior suggests post-copulatory behavior, thus under-water copulation. The ♀ proceeded to cross to the willows on the W side at E 12-14 - followed shortly by the ♂. - The ♂ got rather excited when a pair of Mallards got close to the cat-tails at 9:22. He charged the ducks but did not actually attack them or attempt to drive them out of the area. The ducks were apparently nest hunting and gave the appearance of planning to enter the nest area.
