IV. GULLION 950 Fulica americana 278 Apr 5 Lake Temescal, 420ft, Alameda Co., Calif.- O released at K7 at 4 p.m. Very shortly after one SE bird jumped it but didn't engage long. O dived, but did not leave the area. A moment later O swam into the cat tails at O I7. One pair seems to be [illegible] quite peacefully occupying the area LM9-10. A bird is incubating the nest at J6.5 - also it looks considerably built up. Things seem unnaturally quiet today. Haven't even seen any tagged birds yet, or the flocks. W pair are on territory, one is feeding on weeping willow leaves at E12. A SE bird just came out from O7 to chase the M[arrow] to K13, then as the MF cached at K10, SE bird returned to chase her to I11, and then retired. A minute later both M birds were drifting back into their area. The SW pair, the E pair and the W pair are all on territory. The SE M[arrow] was just crowing as he approached his mate at F8 while the W pair fed at F11. 6 birds of the flock are feeding at MN32-35. The nest at P16.12 is considerably built up, maybe going to have eggs soon. The affair at Q23.11 seems to have been converted from a nest to a platform and is now loaded with fecal debris. 3 tagged plus 1 located bird feeding (+1 other UMM) at
