GULLION
950 Fulica americana 277
Apr. 5 Univ. Calif. Campus, Alameda Co., Calif. -
about the external environment. I have not seen [V]B[39] have any chance to
settle on the nest. [V]B[39] cleans the
pool out when [O]/E/ isn't in it [W]B
just chased red-hill [X]R. P/O is
carrying cat-tail leaves from the
"nest" to the corner. [W]B slapping
his foot on the pile of leaves.
[B]r chases O/[B]r. [V]E[39] trying to
settle on the nest was chased off by
[V]E/. [W]B standing near the nest
in an arch, punking in a low
voice, and occasionally slapping
his foot. [X]R swimming in the pool
and vigorously feeding on numerous
insects floating on the surface. Now
all is quiet. 8:20 - this section
started about 7:50 a.m. [O]/E/, [G]B[39],
[W]B O/P all nesting in SE corner,
joined [X]R, [B]r, [other X] in S center;
the other one must be over in the SW
corner. O/[B]r. In the pen P/LG is
consistently pecking at [L]B as it
gets the chance. O/[B]r was in the
cat-tails rather than the SW corner.
[O]/E/ sure has yellow legs, and
[E]B[39] has yellow green legs. Whenever
O starts sniping into the pen the
birds outside immediately get
aggressive and start chasing and
making noises,
