February 1950 Fulica americana 261 Apr 1 Lake Temescal, 420ft., Alameda Co., Cal. - A chase seems to be underway from K7, at least birds out at KM 11 are alerted. Mostly very peaceful this morning. All Territorial birds seem to be on or near core areas - first now a SE bird came out, chasing bird feeding at KM 11- then it cut across from L10 to hit at a bird at I8, the hit bird dived, but quickly surfaced and displayed, with its SW mate quickly joining it, forcing the SE bird to retire into the willow to display. 11:03, two birds clashed at M10- and a general mixing up is coming, 7 birds chasing or displaying at L10. Two several birds as in charge portions no chases are underway - see 11:05 map - w/2E made of vicious job at GK once at L10 - another bird charged out to G and they bantered a little, some billing. Just now 11:10, a X way fight at L10 between birds of the flock, E pair came down from their area to M11 before SE 2 came splattering out, first to repulse the E pair, passing other bird to do it, then turning to route the flock out onto open water.
