Both it and its companion nest are floating tho the rain today has floated the lake up about 8-10 inches. Both nests look nearly complete, both have some greenery in them but mostly dead cat tails. The F came in fairly close, showing some concern about the nest. Looked over the rest of the S end without finding any more nests. Saw w/B and O/. The nest at P6.2 is suffering badly from its exposed position and the heavy waves rolling across the lake against it. The nest at Q23.11 is larger, in good position to be studied from the bridge over the E inlet. Both birds gave characteristic notes as I approached this nest. No eggs. Saw S one tag lost, the left one, only the wire dangling. Didn't see the M bird (w/B?). The water is really rough today. Saw one bird charge by close in front of another bird, and as it passed it raised its head up and back. Jewel Lake, 570 ft. Contra Costa Co., Calif. At 5:35 p.m. when I arrived, both N birds at F26- M is the larger, must be the male- They cut across towards the island, M in a semi-charge.
