GULLION 950 Fulica americana 236 Mar 19 Conaway Ranch, Weedland, Yolo Co., Calif. - Lots of birds here today. Several flocks of 60 to 200 birds out seen feeding on grass away from water. Also 10 to 12 pairs seen on territory defending areas. Bird GTR released on a slough. This bird isn't in too good shape, but it may make the grade. (Incidentally, I saw one bird feeding on Docks Rumex (Indian Tobacco) on the Gray Lodge Refuge yesterday.) Mar 20 Univ. Calif. Campus, Alameda Co., Calif. - Watched [illegible] on the nest for a few minutes. He repeatedly stamped his foot, had his head down a little and seemed to be in a display pose. Mar 21 same locality - Shield on X LB seems to be a little regressed today, somewhat wrinkled. Shield on [illegible] is 9S, also I believe a regression from about a 6S. - (no regressions see p. 234). Mar 22 same locality - Shield on O swollen, now approaching 6S, shield 10 mm long but about 11mm wide. Shield about as below - bill costa badly beaten up.
