W - was seen in a display this morning about 7:55a.m. She climbed up on a pile of cat-tails on the edge of the pool and stopped on the top, lowered her head, spread her under tail coverts and gave a low, barely audible "tuke, tuke, tuke" note. VBG indicated some interest, started over to her, but did not actually approach her. She then moved over against the wall under the tree fern and repeated the display, but again no reciprocation was observed on the part of any nearby males. VBG is vigorously defending that corner of the court against YLB and XC, chasing them every time they come into the area. These both are birds with swollen shields. So far he has shown no aggressive behavior towards any of the other males that are probably present VBG and probably X16.
