The Shield on this bird is very large, more of the shape of class 9, but the size of class 11. -Aquatic Park, Berkeley Alameda Co. Calif. 103 coots counted on the lake, one pinned bird seen but no tagged birds seen. I believe I saw every cost on the lake and examined it with binoculars. Feb 15 Univ. Calif. Campus Alameda Co., Calif.-? LB/P died during the morning in the pen. It was alive but weak at 8 a.m., dead and cold at 11:30a.m. Placed several foods before them. Some mushrooms, leaves of indian tobacco, poison hemlock, chickweed and grass cuttings. Of the chickweed, mush- toms and "tobacco" on the ground only the chickweed was taken. Of the hemlock, tobacco, chickweed and grass trimminigs in the water the grass was taken most readily; but some chickweed was also taken. One bird pecked in an exploratory manner at a mushroom but I don't thinks it ate any. XC is limping badly. Not sure what the trouble is. Seems very reluctant to move
