with other birds, having in the past
minute routed both YG and XC from
a favored spot. Also XKB just
packed another stick to the same
place, a pool of standing water.
YG and XKG are now bowing and
bill nibbling. XBG has its head
under YG's breast while the latter
nibbles. Now XC + XBG are nibbling
at one another with bowing etc.
Feb 6 Stow Lake Golden Gate Park San Francisco Calif.
One pinned bird seen on west side
island, near position where a pinned
bird was seen earlier. Two birds
were seen together, one crowing the
other cackling. I couldn't determine
which was doing what but one of
the birds had a frontal shield
fully as swollen as the bird given
testosterone on the campus. There
seems to be some territory defense
going on here, Tho most of it is
away from so what I would term
suitable territory since there is
no emergent vegetation concerned.
Several pairs have small areas
"blocked" off, are bowing to
another and nibbling. XBG/PB seen
feeding with several other birds on
grass and picking up grit from
the walks NE of the island.
Both tags still on this bird. A
third once tagged bird with only
the scar left was feeding in the
