X C + Y/ G both apparently male, are browing to one another, and Y/G is nibbling around the dangles of XC . Despite lettuce, spinach, grasses and chick- weed (?), all fresh in the water, the birds prefer to pick over the week old carrot tops etc. Some green cabbage and all of the purple cabbage seems to remain unmolested. Having laid out lettuce, carrot tops, beet tops, spinach, grass (app ?) and chick-weed (?) in separate piles, the carrots tops seem to be attracting the most attention, the lettuce ranks a close second, spinach is third. The grass and chickweed have only been sampled by one or two birds, the beet tops haven't even been pecked at. Y/ LB was carrying sticks, also went through a fast but vigorously "billing" episode with P/O. For the most part these birds are too full and satisfied to do much feeding. Of course that condition will give a clue to their preferences, since a hungry lot would show little preference until nearly satisfied. All their feeding has been on the ground. They have shown no interest in the food floating in the water. Y/ LB has become aggressive
