Fulica americana 186 Jan 30 Univ. Calif. Campus, Alameda Co., Calif. from this lot, the bird is in good physical condition. A large fluke was found in the body cavity near the kidney. Bird 32-♂, 3 flukes taken from nasal sinuses, found a large ulcer near pylorus loaded with small nematodes. Bird generally in good shape otherwise. Testes in Bovins, leg, wing dried, bill, cloaca in alcohol—bursa present 25 mm long, but narrow and white, not ♀ large flabby and gray as most are. Bird 33-♂, cloaca, bill saved, wing & leg dried. Testes & syrinx not saved. No nematodes in nasal sinus or body cavity, but ulcer with nematodes found in gizzard near pylorus. Blood smear taken from subclavian area. Bursa gray, flabby, 32 mm long. Bird 34-♀, cloaca, ovary, bill in alcohol, leg-wing dried, syrinx enlarged as expected. Three flukes found in nasal sinuses, ulcer with nematodes in gizzard.—Although I hadn't looked specifically for these ulcers in earlier birds I am sure none were present since I have cleaned each one for future gastronomic purposes and had they been present I would have found them.
