Six coots on the lake today, none of them tagged. I'm not even sure that I can have seen the B bird with only the safety pin remaining. Territory behavior is not well developed. A couple of instances of possible territoriality were observed (see next page) but on the whole little defense or aggression was noted. The pair (from which both ♂ + ♀ notes have been heard) occupying the S end both have swollen shields, at least one of the two birds in the NW corner seemed to have a swollen shield. Two more birds, both of which have been chased at the NW corner, did not appear to have swollen shields, but this I must check further.
