Fulica Americana 165 Ill. 950 Jan.4 Univ.Calif.Campus,Alameda Co.,Calif.- surrounding tissues,liver mottled with black areas,in its spleen mottled with black areas.This bird was our first attempt at sexing,was perfectly scaled, though we cut into the air sac while working on it.We were two ribs too far anterior.No indication of reaction to the thread still holding ribs together. some scar tissue but not bad.56- died 12-28-49,leg & wing saved.A lead pellet found under the skin on the posterior dorsal surface of the sacrum.Like the preceding bird,this one is full breasted with lots of fat on it.Also lots of fat deposited in mesenteries-f, liver badly mottled,spleen very dark mottled,ovary, cloaca saved in alcohol.8/5-died 1-3-50,leg & wing saved,f,thin,little or no fat,gall bladder large,surrounding issues stained,liver lightly mottled, spleen dark mottled.Ovary with no large follicles as in the case of the two previous birds,ovary, oviduct and cloaca saved-also a hunk of white hard tissue from the posterior edge of the right lung,looks like a fungus infection Jan.5-same locality-The mold taken from P on Nov.23,1949(p.143) has been identified by Dr.Emerson of the Botany Department as Aspergillus flavus-
