ullin 1949 Fulica americana 156 Dec 15 Univ, Calif, Campus, Alameda Co., Calif. parasites. Another bird No 1 died at Lake Merritt during the night and was brought in. Both tags gone but band on leg for identification. Had a blue wool thread wound around legs, but apparently not tied there. May have died of starvation, intestines quite empty. & slight fungal (?) infection in wall of left thoracic air sac, stretched on a slide & fixed. Blood smear from heart taken, gall bladder loaded.-11 mm diameter by 24 mm long. F with some fair sized follicles. Bursa 30mm.- cloaca, syne, ovary, wing & leg saved. Rest of carcass turned over to Harry Rosenberg for parasites. Auricles quite distended with blood, liver heart and spleen appear to all be normal color- but a number of gas bubbles seen in ceacum. - Lake Merritt, Oakland, Alameda Co., Calif.- S - S seen in the refuge area at 2:30pm. R G Today. Were feeding in same general area, along the area just E of the fenced area. A third bird, in the fenced area- lost both tags, only safety pin still present. I was not able to read the band number- but it was my 496-71.. series- and the last number looked like a 0- the only fully swinged bird of that series would be No 2, from Lake Temescal- being 496-71610.
