A very slight light tip, but not at all extensive - its VP tag removed and replaced with a crimped, double wired copper staple-copper wire VOW tag. This bird is to be released on Jewel Lake. -13/B- had its primaries pulled on Oct. 31, now has 1 primary about 1/2 out, but still quite well sheathed, and two more just breaking out of an inch long sheath. X'B weighs 470gms, had a plain under-wing surface, all tag replaced by a new style W-13E. W-R-weight 362 gms, tag replaced by VOW of the new copper-copper style. This bird is not as fully healed as I could wish it to be. All three birds were released on Jewel Lake at about 6 P.M. this evening. Dec 3 Jewel Lake, 509ft. Tilden Park Contra Costa Co., Calif. At least 10 coots on the lake at 11a.m. today, including the 3 tagged birds put on last night. Seems to be no evidence of territorial behavior. 1 bird has a safety pin on its neck, but no tags, presumably the B bird. Also one obviously immature bird, by bill characters. VOW and VBEW seem to be feeding pretty much together, while W'B' seems to be alone. At 11:08a.m. VOW was "bowing" with an unmarked bird while VBEW swam nearby. - over -
