Nov 24 Lake Temescal, 420 ft., Alameda Co. Calif.-
1 pair in close enough to photograph them
in black & white and color. Both were
giving the true sex notes, the smaller
the female note, the larger the o note.
Having made a loop around the lake
can sure these are no more tagged
coots on this lake.

The hundreds of coots were on this
lake, no tagged ones were seen in the
refuge area, they could be elsewhere
on the lake tho.

Wanted to visit here but the fog was too
thick, visibility was about 30 feet.
Nov 25 Univer. Calif Campus, Alameda Co., Calif.-
3/B wt 472 gms. Opened this bird,
saw it, a o, sewed it up, covered the wound
with collodion's gentian violet, and released it.
It secreted a mucous thru the mouth
heavily during the whole proceedings, and
seems to be limping now since being
released. WP-weight 647 grams, sexed
internally, a o, had to cut wall of air
sac to do it, six slitches in skin.
Lots of fat on this bird, had to make
a large incision and roll it back
to work on it. Bleeding only in skin
at level of uncinate process. VsV found
drowned in the pool this afternoon. At
may have drowned since noon, at
least it was still fresh. It proved to
be a ? with o sized foot. Rt leg,
wing, sitting, ovary & cloaca saved?.
