Bill patterns were not closely checked. 574 same locality - After several days of feeding these birds a commercial food mix containing wheat, cracked corn and several other grains, I find that they clean up everything except the cracked corn. So far I have not seen any bird show any interest in trying to get out of the fenced area - in fact it is very seldom that they even get close to the fence. They seem to feel safer against the wall of the building. They seem to spend very little time in the water, but rather wander around the edge of the pool, on the list, most of the time. All green grass and herbaceous material has been cleaned up in the pen, and they have shown some interest in the leaves of the Myriophyllum growing around the pool. The water plants in the pool were cleared out in the first 48 hours. They are active in the water at night, at least they were last night, and apparently do quite a bit of diving etc. them clearing large patches of the bottom of its layers of muck. 1 bird, /5/, stays apart from the rest of the birds for some reason - I suspect it is not in the best of health.
