Fulica Americana -118- 3 Seal Lake Contra Costa Co Calif. R/B and X are both getting the dark gray head plumage but neither has a whitish looking bill. G/S has the solid medium gray, and a bill fully as light (5 gm) as either of the other 2 immatures. 4 same locality - Been here since a little after 10 a.m. have seen 3 imm but didn't get tag colors - R/B and one black fronted-black headed yng. Later saw 2 white-headed yng. Immatures G/S, R/B, X are on the lake but no sign of the other immatures - nor of S. If these birds left the lake, as I expect they did, it was not under pressure of disturbance, but rather just an emigration. 5 Apparently the S end of the lake is the best coot territory. Now the N pair have moved completely into that area pretty much leaving their old area to the ducks and other coots - no longer do immatures encounter the wrath of the N pair when they get in the Nest. same locality - At 11:15 a.m. L2 total escape was caught in the "loop" trap at H14. The toe nail on this bird that was clipped is just a nub easily distinguished from the unclipped nails.
