Fulica americana -107- 28 Lake Temescal, Alameda Co., Calif. In display off the willow point S of the Rocks. 3 were in display first - and then a 4th splattered in to join them - after the display broke off they dived and tripped in the usual separation behavior. - An adult has moved down along the E side of the lake bringing 3 or 4 dark gray headed birds with it - now the SE pair are again cleaning out the 10 or so mallards from the channel E of the Rocks. Both birds are at it - and now only the ? is working, the ? being busy feeding on bottom algae! - The young that was all dark last week now has a solid white lores and front of head - this young is actively begging and feeding with the parent. These are apparently 2 birds in that younger brood - now the SE pair are tattering a ? muddy duck nearly beside several of their umm. The SW brood apparently consists of two young. They are fairly close to the same age. Both have the white fronts and both have down covered bodies - their bills are a light yellowish-gray. Both as busy feeding them- selves as well as taking offered food from their parents. - The ? of the SE pair once this morning started after several mallards but stopped when they went up onto the island - she moved around in the water nearby "booning"
