Cat-tails between this nest and open water are not dense- tho in good repair this nest does not appear to be in use. - The egg nest at T 9.17 was not floating so it captured dumping the eggs into the water - it does not seem to be in use. The wood nest at I 4.21 is still in use- has green material in it and because it was not floating has been continuously worked on until now it is 25 in long by 17 in wide, with the need cup at the E end having a diameter of 7 in. It is 4 ft from open water to the N, has no gangway, is in about 3 feet of water. The present rim is 6 in. above the water. - The old egg nest at I 5.17 shows no sign of use, lacks a cup and is really little more than a 7 in heap of dried cat-tails. The nest at C 6.16 is floating, in 3 ft of water, no longer in repair- it may be in use by frogs. it is 3 ft from open water and an inside diameter of about 7 in., may have had a gangway facing open water to the NW. Note - one of the birds on Middle Chain Lake ystoday, repeatedly was heard giving a "pit-tuck" note as it crossed from the tule to its brood- I have not heard this note from Jewel Lake birds. 11:55 at the moment X & R/S are feeding together at H 15, G/S and R/I3 at H 6,- SIR was also in this area until a moment ago.
