Fulica Americana -103- Jewel Lake, Contra Costa Co, Calif. The nest at N26.18 - which was never much more than a platform, is now defunct - it was 2½ feet from open water to the south in about 3 feet of water. The egg nest at N26.4 is still in good repair and apparently in use - it is less than 2½ feet in from open water to the north, in about 3 feet of water - the gangway faces away from open water - to the SW- facing open cat-tail areas. There is fresh wet cat-tail & green cat-tail material in the nest - it is a floating nest- sinking with the falling water level - it has a 6 in. inside diameter, 12 in from outside rim to top of gangway, and a 11 in gangway. The rim is 5 in out of the water.- The floating nest at N25.14 is defunct- but something probably frogs, are still using it. The old egg nest at O26.6 looks as if it may still be in use - it must be a floating nest and is in good repair after the trapping in this end it is about 1 foot from open water.- The nest at H17.23- is a well constructed non-floating nest with gangway facing north into the cat-tails. Open water to the east is 5 feet away, there is about 3 feet of water under the nest - the inside diameter is 8 in, it is 14 in from outside rim to top of gangway; gangway is 10 in long, and rim is 8 in below.
