- definition of terms -
- charging- means swimming across the water
with head and neck lowered to water
surface and making a noticeable wake
in the water -
- splatting- chasing another bird
across the surface of the water by
flapping wings and "walking" on the
water-
- spreading- refers to the extending or
spreading of the tail feathers in
courtship play.
- paired display- both birds behaving in
like manner.
- churning- refers to the behavior where a bird
lifts its body out of the water and churns
the water by stroking the feet forward.
