B is (4:58) at I 24-on the edge of what's left of clear water. At 5:02 B is at K 25 and has been joined by a 4th young - S is out of sight, 5:05 S is at M 20 - B is at K 26-feeding 1 upg, another upg is at K 25 - B is moving towards P 26 taking 2 upg while another young has moved to K 27 where it is feeding alone. At 5:09, 3 upg are together at K 26- moving E, B has one upg M 26 moving towards the cat-tails and S is feeding alone at L 20.15. -Time to go home for now. July 20 Lake Temescal, Alameda Co., Calif. - 5 immatures seen on this lake, all about 2 weeks younger than the Jewel lake. S wood - these are still all in the light gray plumage - perhaps the older of these is a week younger than the youngest S wood - A couple of the birds examined at very close range- one had the dark top of head, the rest of neck & foreparts the very light gray of a young bird - the primaries on this bird were just beginning to develop, may have been 30 mm long and monthly sheathed. There are at least 7 young on the lake - 3 having been seen in the cat- tail growth at the S end while
