Fulica americana -78- July 19 Jewel Lake, Tilden Park, Contra Costa Co. Calif. is cutting across the lake towards SE and S is coming out to cut it off, still no change - just S moving rapidly. now both are out of sight moving in at D 13. B w/3 yng more or less in attendance, is at M26 - 2 yng are moving across, now at M26, 21-(3:36) a 4th yng is moving out, following B who is moving across to L 27 w/1 yng - now B is moving out towards K26 - 1 yng is moving E at K28 - now 4yng +B are scattered from K28 to L27. - 5 is still out of sight - B now has (3:40) 3 yng at J28 but one went back to K26- now returning to join the brood. -(3:48) B has returned to M26 w/2 yng - 1yng is at L27, the oth at K28 - both moving in the direction of the parent - seems to be only 4 yong in this brood now. 3:51- B with 4 yng within ten feet of her - is moving out from L26 towards K25 - and is now heading towards L24- with 1yng tailing and 3 more feeding 2 to 12 feet behind her. - 1 yng seems to be regularly present (begging?) to receive food while the other three are feeding by themselves, more or less lagging along - 2 seem to always be together - they the most indigent, while a 3rd stays more or less in her area, but feeds alone, occasionally getting food from her - #4 tags close to her, being fed regularly. 3:55- S just "puked" and then moved
