Fulica Americana July 19 Jewel Lake Tulder Park Contra Costa Calh. 1:28 - S in feeding now at M25. 2 w/1 yng. 2 unattended yng at 2:07, crossing by the boat to L27 - at 2:18 these two birds crossed from M25 to M27 - at 2:25 S w/1yng crossed the same area to the raft and is busy preening - now 2:27 yng are at M27, K28. H29. B is at K28. 7 w/1 yng, (5 quit preening, at 2:29 and took to the water) preening etc - standing on a mass of floating cat-tail. At 2:33 B is gone from that perch and now out of sight. 2:38 S is moving S at K23 w/1 yng - occasionally turning to feed the yng - For awhile about 2 pm. D/B, R/B; Y & G/B were feeding near H17+18 unmolested - about the same time the 2 unaccompanied yng passed thru the area, but unmolested they drifted back S. 2:40 - S w/1yng at L21.20, B is still out of sight. 2:58 - S is at K19.20 w/1yng - B is crossing from E24 towards the island followed by 3 yng. They are not following close tho - but rather are wandering all over the general vicinity of & her path feeding themselves - she is feeding some - occasionally turning to give food to one young that is now closely tailing h-- at 3:00 p.m. 2 yng are at G24 wandering about feeding while B w/1yng is at K24 approaching the island!
