Jul-19 Fulica americana -75- July 19 Jewel Lake Tilden Park Contra Costa Calif. absence of the S adults is no doubt the reason why. - Now (1:05 pm) the deh bodied yng has rejoined S at L21 and they are moving rapidly N about 10 feet out - in fact may be cutting over towards L26- now they have turned in to the tree on the island where S fed the yng - now they are moving on N. From the way that yng with S seems to have quite a bit of white pluming on its head. Considering the infrequency with which it is fed-this young seems to be merely accompanying S mostly feeding itself- tho at 1:09 it did come over to S at M26.13, may and get fed twice. Now the yng is on the floating log at (1:11) M26.4 and is stretching for food- then preening and 30 seconds later back in the water behind its parent. (B has still not been seen) # 1:15, S is out of sight and so is the young. 1:18- a large min - on which I could not see the tag- was on the water at F/10- it seemed alerted when I stepped out of the car- and after about 30 seconds flew- dragging one foot, to D12 where it was lost to sight- could it be that one of the missing tags is on an injured bird that is extremely wary? - 1:24, had a "pubk" and S w/1 yng was feeding at M25.20-a moment later B came out in the same area-a minute later they all have disappeared again.
