July 19 - Jewel Lake, Tilden Park, Contra Costa Co. Calif. Again, quickly disappearing into cover along the island. 12:47 - 2 young, alone, are feeding at C20- working towards H18 - one is 2/3 the size of the other they too neither have plumes on the body, nor wings, the larger has proper white plumes on head to the other still has some yellow-orange plumes on area just behind top of - both have the orange wax feathers around the bill. Both have the "sunburned pate". They are busily feeding, working around thru the pond weed much like adults, picking up food from the surface- they are now (12:53) together at D21- one has "charged" and captured an insect. I has now moved E from view, but I is still busily feeding at D21. 12:55 - S is again in view w/ 2 & wh bodied young at L20.16 - These 2 alone appeared to be a little younger than the birds S- now (12:58 - they have both vanished to the E - Both have bright reddish bills. 12:58 - B is still out of sight and S w/1 yng is at L21.8. At 1 p.m. I saw bodied young is "shwering" at L23.19 while S is feeding alone at L20.16. - There has been no crowing nor fighting since about July 8. The apparent
