Eulica Americana -54- July 5 Jewel Lake Tiller Parks Contra Costa Co Calif- the nest at I 5.13 is now 7 inches To the pin- a considerable amount of new material having been added- it is taking the form of an egg nest. July 6 same locality- Egg #4 is hatched at 10:30a.m.- the shell is mostly gone from the nest and the still damp chick weighs 19.62gms. Toe nail L3 clipped. Just after being weighed this young passed a small quantity of fecal matter- some white in it, but mostly it was a bright greenish- a long 2 or 3 inch cord about 3 mm in diameter. Caught 2 N brood young this afternoon, marked R as 5/8. Both had primaries about 3/4 developed, but still with considerable sheathing for nearly 1/2 the primary length- bills gray with a reddish spot on the shield. The female N was taken banded etc - her bill is like ivory- with the red shield mark- no indication of molt in primaries.- I got the No7 to fly for a couple of hundred feet- neither of the young seem to be able to. R2 of the new N brood was captured at 7/18/18.-weighed at 25.96gms and released- notice that all the color plumes are missing from the underparts and that a very few are left in the back region except those orange and reddish ones on the head- the club-
